So yesterday something crazy happened. By 12:30 I had consumed 71 grams of protein. 71!! That is sometimes my intake for the whole day. I was so proud of myself. The reason I was able to accomplish such a miraculous feat was because of this lil’ number I picked up at the store this week.
Now, I know, I know. Everyone looooves greek yogurt. I am soooo behind the times. Blah blah blah. Yogurt is an awesome source of protein, it’s true. But, to be honest with you, unless it’s coming out of a soft serve machine of the frozen variety, I don’t really like it. I decided this week I wanted to give it a shot and I found this Yoplait kind that had awesome stats. 17 grams of protein? Seriously? Love it.
I got the plain kind because I knew I was going to be adding it to a protein shake. I tried a little dip of it on it’s own and it was kinda nasty. I don’t like the tart/sour creamish taste. BUT…I added to it
Strawberries have been so cheap lately, so I bought a bunch and prepped little fruit bags to freeze for my protein shakes so I can just throw them in there really quickly.
I LOVED how the shake turned out. The yogurt made it really thick and creamy. the total nutrition facts on this shake…
285 calories, 0 grams of fat, 34 grams of carbs, 38 grams of protein, and 2 grams of fiber. 38 grams of non meat protein in ONE meal. Yes…it is true. I was seriously so excited about it. Let’s be honest. I still am. This totally fills me up so I had it by itself for my lunch. AWESOME. Try it. I promise you’ll love it.
Do you like greek yogurt? I am guessing some of the flavored kinds are better, but I am loving mixing it in my protein shakes right now. How do you usually eat it? I don’t like yogurt plain, but i do like it when it’s mixed with cereal and fruit.
i looooove greek yogurt! chobani and fage are my favorites. i only eat plain because i try to get my carbs/sugar from real fruit rather than added into yogurt. but my husband eats the flavored kind like there is no tomorrow! i recently read a really informative post regarding the different brands of greek yogurt and i did more research and yoplait greek yogurt isn’t exactly “real” greek yogurt, but has additives to make it replicate the consistency. just thought it was something you may want to know–not trying to be preachy! http://hungryhungryhippie.com/2011/04/11/its-all-greek/
YAY for getting so much protein in, i am proud of you!
Love Greek Yogurt! I mix it with oats and pumpkin and lots of cinnamon and bananas and dates, let it sit for a couple of minutes, and eat it cold for breakfast! REALLY good, you could probably throw some Splenda on there if you like it a little sweeter. Great for smoothies because it’s SO creamy! Great job on cramming in the protein grams!
Greek yogurt is a daily treat for me! I love it with fruit and stevia..as I always buy the plain kind to avoid all the sugar they add in the other stuff! My all time fave greek yogurt secret is making ‘peanut butter frosting’ out of it. I wrote a whole post about it!

welcome to life addicted to the greek 🙂
I LOVE Greek yogurt (Chobani and Fage are the beeeessstttt)…I can’t eat it plain though
I always add vanilla, cinnamon, and 1 pack of Splenda to it. I like mixing it with Fiber One cereal and fruit for breakfast too 🙂
This smoothie sounds super good!
I love greek yogurt! It’s part of my breakfast EVERY day. I add 1 packet of splenda (i agree it is sour), fruit, and flaxseed. Sometimes I make a smoothie very similar to yours. I like dannon, chobanni (theirs is creamiest), or oikos.
Love it! I love the honey flavors best of all but when plain is on sale I grab it up! Chobani and Fage are winning so far. 🙂 These smoothies make my world go round. Love running late morning now and coming home to one of these as a recovery + lunch meals.
Greek Yogurt does kind of have a funky taste, but it so great when you mix it with other things. I like to add 1 T or so of the sugar free fat free chocolate pudding mix into it and it has a mousse like consistency. Its delicious! I also love to top my whole wheat pancakes with the same concoction, and it is to die for!
I only started eating greek yogurt because it was the “cool” thing to do, but it has never really been my top favorite food. I just eat it because it is so good for you!
you are amazing. really. you are. I go through phases of liking greek yogurt and not. I finally bought some again yesterday for the first time in a long while because I have SO many coupons for it. I LOVE to eat it with granola because I feel like that adds more protein.
Also…I really felt proud of myself and felt like I would make you proud..I bought whole wheat flour and apple sauce at the store yesterday. I LOVE to bake and am excited to start making healthy substitutions in my baking 🙂
i actually am not a fan of greek yogurt. it tastes weird to me. that’s a crazy amount of protein!
i love greek yogurt! but I like the full fat versions. lower in lactose makes a happy tummy. ANd ya, the BIOCHEM VANILLA ROCKS!
I love love love Chobani greek yogurt. It has chunks of whole fruit in it and is amazing!!!
Congrats on all the protein!
I’m not a huge fan of the Greek yogurt by itself, the texture gets to me or something. But I have such an addiction lately: vanilla (or plain) Greek yogurt + banana + a few spoons of coconut flakes + a tiny bit of coconut extract + pineapple + ice + just a splash of milk (I like mine pretty thick) = the best smoothie ever! Haha, but seriously, if you like pina colada, you should give this a try. Plus throw some chia seeds and spinach in there and you’re good to go. It’s soooo yummy!
Megan! Try Fage from Costco. It is the same calories as yoplait (120/cup) but it has 23g protein and only 6 carbs (or something…). I mix stuff into mine and use it plain as a sour cream sub. We buy two things of it at costco a week. Let me know if you try it. I have tons of great greek yogurt mix in ideas on my blog too. 🙂
GO YOU!!
I haven’t joined the greek wagon train yet. haha. I’m freaked out by it for some reason!!! weird I know!
I’m obsessed w/ Greek yogurt, hands down. I can’t remember the last time I had regular yogurt lol. I always mix in cereal, nuts, and/or fruit, although some of the chobani flavors are so creamy I can eat them plain.
I love mixing it into smoothies, and/or eating it on its own. I like the flavored kinds best – strawberry, peach, & blueberry.
Nice work on the protein! I struggle to get in the full amount every day as well.
Chobani is the bomb.com- Costco has a 12 pack of fruit flavors that are really good. I like the plain kind with lots of fresh fruit, but i have to sweeten it… i agree on the too tart.
Have a great weekend! Happy easter!
I love yogurt mixed with granola, but when I tried to do it with Greek yogurt it was super gross. The stuff is just too thick and tart for my tastes. I love other yogurt, though, especially the Trader Joe’s brand stuff!
