Thank you Khloe and Lamar for making my cardio session today fly by like magic. I was dragging a bit when I got to the gym to do my cardio today and I flipped on the TV to find the new Kardashion phenomenon on to suit my fancy. One and a half episodes later I was well worked and fully entertained. I love when that happens. Don’t you?
My food today went swimmingly.
5:20 AM Chocolate PB Oatmeal
8:40 AM 3 oz Smoked Crack Pepper Turkey & some diet hot chocolate (I know early for turkey…an easy snack for work)
1:00 PM Strawberry Banana Protein Shake w/ Fage Greek Yogurt
4:00 PM Ranch Cottage Cheese with Chickpeas
Ok, so I saw this combo the other day on Janetha’s Blog Meals and Moves and I thought to myself…
I LOVE chickpeas.
I LOVE anything ranch flavored.
I try and like cottage cheese. I like it with other foods…and I know how good it is for me, but sometimes I struggle with it. I should try this.
I combined 1/2 cup low fat cottage cheese, 1/3 cup chickpeas, and 1 1/2 tsp ranch seasoning. I think I might add 2 tsp next time. It came to 210 calories and 19 grams of protein. I feel good about that. I LOVED this combo. I think it would be good with some shredded chicken added in, or even tucked inside a whole wheat pita. It was delish. Thanks Janetha!
7:30 Peanut Butter Cliff Bar (I haven’t had anything bar-ish in a long time, but I went to a class straight from work, and knew I needed to eat something before 8:30 when I got done. Usually I would have probably felt like it was a little high in carbs for my liking, but I’d already eaten 100 grams of protein for the day.)
9:00 8 oz Fat free cookies and cream frozen yogurt soft serve cone from the local Maverick with Benits and SB.
Stats for the day: 1320 calories, 114 grams of protein, 20 grams of fat, 179 grams of carbs, and 18 grams of fiber. (The fiber was a LOT lower than I usually like, but because I had to switch my normal dinner to a cliff bar there was a lil’ fiber shortage.)
My percentages were at %35 protein %52 carbohydrates and %13 fat. I like.
Between the Greek Yogurt and this cottage cheese combo I am loving these new food finds for the week. A great reminder to me that I need to be willing to try new foods! I know I am one to get stuck in my ways of eating, and it’s always fun to add new tasty foods to the regimen. There are definitely ups and downs. I don’t always love the outcomes of the new foods I try, but it seems that there is are a lot of positives that come from the trial process!
Does anyone else get caught watching lame TV and loving it…oops? I definitely do when I’m working out. Do you like to try new foods? Sometimes new healthy foods can be scary, and take an acquired taste. Any new ones that you have been surprised at how much you’ve liked them?
Love getting lost in a tv show, makes cardio so much easier! 🙂
I’m gonna have to try your cottage cheese, ranch, chick pea mix… that would be good over salad with lots of extra veggies!
Spin tomorrow?
I am going to try that cottage cheese and chickpea combo, and the addition of chicken would be delish! Or like ashley said over a bed of salad greens would be awesome or like chop up some bell pepper and dip it.
I wish I could zone out and do cardio to shows. I have been reading about people who can do this or can read or listen to an audiobook but I am concentrating too hard on making myself work and staying motivated lol
you gottra try mixing cottage cheese and red pepper hummus next. AWESOME! I then spread it in a lettuce wrap. WHOA MOMMA!
I live for lame tv! I watch far too many CW shows for my husband’s comfort, but sometimes it feels good to turn my brain off for a few hours after a long day at work.
I am a seriously picky eater, so trying new food is always hard for me. Sometimes it can really be worth it, though!
getting lost in tv at the gym always makes the time go by faster!! love it!
I also LOVE trying new foods. I think it is so exciting…even better is when i have everything and it is really just a new combination 🙂
Tv always makes cardio sessions whiz by. I love planning my workouts around my shows.
I’m a super picky eater, so new things are not really on my agenda often. However, I WAS surprised to find out that I actually like hummus in small amounts 🙂
Great idea for the cottage cheese/ranch combo! I don’t really like cottage cheese by itself either. There is a Biggest Loser recipe that I love. It’s cottage cheese (1/2 cup), marinara(1/2 cup) and I usually add chicken. Mix it in a bowl and microwave. It’s like pasta-less lasagna. I add a little italian seasoning to give it a little oomph! And I heart Khloe and Lamar, ha!
i say that when you’re working out that “lame tv” is the way to go. if you can focus on the news or something then you’re probs not working hard enough hhahah!
I’ve been trying to warm up to cottage cheese for a while now.. the only way I’ll eat it so far is in place of shredded cheese on a salad. I’m going to try this though! Also, I want to try the cottage cheese/hummus combo.
I’m not much of a TV watcher. I do, however, get lost in youtube videos on breaks in between study sessions. I’m addicted to my laptop!
I LOVE THE KARDASHIANS!!! I can never get enough even though I know I shouldn’t love it. Janetha has the BEST ideas for increasing protein….we should drive up to SLC and go to lunch with her! I MISS YOU!! Do I get to see you tonight? We should go to pf or get fro yo after spin?!?! LOVE YOU GORGEOUS GIRL and your eating habits are so so healthy, teach me your ways!
um i LOVE all shows kardashian!! and yes, i usually work out while I am watching them, whether its a TM run or a workout DVD… that chick pea meal looks HEAVEN my dear… thanks for the tip! I now am inspired to go out and buy some cottage cheese!
I love trashy TV! I actually love trying new foods, but I do have to agree that some things definitely require an aquired taste!
Reality TV is totally my guilty pleasure….unfortunetely.
I love cottage cheese. I eat about a cup a day and will definitely have to try this combo. Quite honestly though I could eat it straight out of the carton.
Question for you: I have been lowering my calories to 1,300-1,400 a day this week and after about 5-6 miles on the treadmill I start feeling weak and kind of light headed. How do you keep your energy up for workouts with such low caloric intake?
yay! glad you liked it! it is great with other things added in. chicken, roasted tomatoes, cucumbers, peas.. um, the possibilities are ENDLESS! and it is good on everything!
and yes, you and janae should drive up to SLC and eat food with me. i would be thrilled 🙂
I get motion sick when I watch TV on the tredmill. I can’t even have it on! BOO.
I wanted to watch Khloe & Lamar – I need to add it to my DVR. 🙂
I love cottage cheese, so I’m definitely going to try the chick peas. That sounds great.I use cottage cheese as a salad dressing all the time. Yum.

I always get sucked into travel channel and HGTV shows 🙂 that’s about the only reality tv I’ll watch!
Yes. My lame tv show is America’s Next Top Model…so lame but I have to watch it. And I really don’t like to try new foods. I should get over that, but not gonna!!
Oo I love cottage cheese so much, that combo looks great!!! You are rocking the protein, keep it up 🙂
I watch the Today Show when I workout in the mornings, it’s the best!
Ok, so I’ve been following your blog (secretly stalking your blog, i should say) FOREVER. But I must try this odd cottage cheese mixture. It looks like something right up my alley. I love it!
