- SOLUTION: Get back on track ASAP! This goes right along with #4, consistency. The quicker you get back on track with your eating & your workouts, the less detrimental those “off moments” will be.
- SOLUTION: Pick your indulgences wisely. This is a hard one for people to deal with. Nobody likes to be THAT person; You know, the one who turns down the cookie. Well, guess what? If you never turn down the cookie, you can’t expect huge changes. Decide what is worth it to you. Your long term goals are worth it. I promise. AND, chances are…about 5 mins after turning down the cookie, you will probably forget about it anyways.
- SOLUTION: Be patient. It’s all about the consistency of those good days. Change takes time. Health improvements take time. Increasing speed takes time. Increasing lean muscle mass takes time. Losing weight takes time. If it’s a quick fix, it’s usually not a lasting fix. Real change, takes patience.
- SOLUTION: Do a reality check on how you are treating your body. If you are finding you are lacking in any of these areas, make some changes a priority.
- SOLUTION: Ask yourself if what you are trying to achieve is realistic? Be honest with yourself. Set goals that push you, but not that will ruin you. I see people killing themselves to try & lose that last 5 pounds. The truth is, the closer you are to your goal weight, the harder it will be to get there (and the more accuracy it will require.) Ask yourself if having that last 5 lbs is worth having it be your all consuming thoughts. If you are going to have a happier, more sustainable life with that 5 lbs on you, it might be worth setting some different goals.
- SOLUTION: Give yourself a real assessment on all other areas listed above. If you feel like you’re really doing all that you can elsewhere, there is a definite chance you might have some imbalances & I totally support getting your blood work done & seeing a professional. If there is something out of balance there, fixing it can make all the difference!
It’s not all about the number on the scale.
If you read through these solutions, & still feel like you haven’t found your answer; maybe the answer to your question of Why Can’t I lose weight? is that you don’t need to. Maybe, just maybe…instead of asking yourself beating yourself up wondering, “why can’t I lose weight,” You’d be better of to set your mindset to worrying less about the number on the scale. Ask questions like, How can I decrease my body fat, improve my fitness level, increase my strength, challenge my athleticism, or improve my overall quality of life? While the scale can be an indicator of change, if you are in a healthy weight range, and you are living a healthy lifestyle, that number isn’t always the end all be all. Don’t let your scale ruin your happiness. It’s not worth it, I promise. 🙂
